Our first senior to graduate during COVID-19 was Amanda "Dory" Gorges. She graduated in the Fall of 2020 with a Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering.
While at University of Michigan-Dearborn, she interned at Tachi-s and had a co-op at DTE, where she currently works. Amanda loved that "every experience within the sorority was a learning experience, the good times and the okay times. The interactions, social, and professional events helped me understand what a professional role would be like within STEM. Being apart of AOE also shined the importance of knowing how much a reputation will impact those around you. This meant that myself and those around me must take responsibility for our actions in order to positively reflect on the other sisters of the sorority." After graduating, she is in the midst of pursuing a masters degree while also striving for her long terms goal of starting or managing a large corporation. We wish you luck in your endeavors Amanda! As your namesake said, "just keep swimming." Our final senior graduating this semester is the one and only Kayla "Riser" Bonell!
During Kayla’s college career, she has participated in the Disney College Program in Orlando, and interned at Continental Automotive to expand her knowledge and explore her passions. Here’s some words Kayla had to say about her time in AOE; “I joined AOE. my freshman year in Fall 2015. I am thankful that this sorority brought me my best friends and taught me valuable skills that I will carry into my career. My favorite memories are all from Day Away, especially when Jamie and Madie became my littles.” Kayla is so excited to start the next chapter of her life as a brake engineer for Ford Motor Company. The whole world is in front of you Kayla, we can’t wait to see you take it! Congratulations! Let's all congratulate Alyssa "Espresso" Corn, one of our seniors who just graduated from UMD!
During Alyssa's time in Alpha Omega Epsilon, she was on the executive board almost every semester holding positions of MED, VP, and President. Here's a message from Alyssa about her time here at AOE; "I've been in AOE since fall 2017 and I couldn't be happier. It means a lot to me because it's helped shape who I am today. One memory I always think of is the first day away I was able to help with. Our sorority wasn’t big at that time which made everything so special and endearing.” After college, Alyssa plans to be a mechanical engineer at Roush Entertainment Systems and work on animatronics at places like Disney or Universal. Thank you for all that you have done Alyssa! We wish you nothing but happiness and success. Congrats! Meet Sara! Sara was inducted in our Beta Mu class in the Winter of 2019. She has served as Social Chair and will be Membership Educator this semester! She is a junior pursuing a dual degree in Mechanical and Bioengineering. We are so privileged to watch her blossom into an amazing engineer and an amazing woman!
"Over the summer I had a great opportunity to work as an intern at nanoMAG LLC. I learned to write and execute various experiments to test medical implants that nanoMAG was developing. I was working along side bio-engineers, doing the same work and having as much responsibility as they do! This experience allowed me to become fully immersed in the professional field of engineering as well as apply my analytical and design skills in real life situations. I currently work in the CECS Co-op and Internship Office as a student assistant. I have the privilege of being able to connect and form bonds with many engineering companies to help students obtain co-op and engineering positions. Both of these opportunities have enabled to me to improve my professional skills as a woman working in the field of engineering!" Meet Shivani! An upcoming junior majoring in Bio and Mechanical Engineering. This past semester she took on the intriguing and daring leadership role of being a TA for Engineering 100! Here is Shivani herself talking about the experience she had:
"Being a Teaching Assistant for Engineering 100 has not only given me the chance to work with incoming engineering students, it has also helped me improve my teaching abilities as well as my public speaking skills. In the lab session I go over the over the design process, a fundamental idea that every engineering student should know in their first year. Over the course of the semester, the students will get to know one another and eventually get into groups to design and build a product for a specific task. My job as a TA is to help guide these groups throughout the project and to make sure that they are on task with their work. A major part about the class that I like to emphasize is teamwork. I feel it's important to teach the students about teamwork because it's used so much in the world of engineering. I'm happy that I was able to acquire a TA position for the class and I hope to continue for as long as I can!" |
